We made some 2″ soil blocks and started tomatoes this afternoon.
Principe Borghese
Solanum lycopersicum. Red Paste/Drying. 70 days. Indeterminate.
Classic Italian sun drying tomato. Red pointy plums with thick flesh and skin. Its viney plants grow tall enough for a trellis, and yield very late into the season. We will dry for winter use. When we first grew these, Crystal sliced them in half and put them in our dehydrator. They were tasty simply as “Tomato Candy.”
Ararat Flame
Solanum lycopersicum. 60 days. Semi-determinate.
Bushy plants are heavy yielders all through the season of flattened, medium-sized, deep red 4-6 oz fruit. This is our first time growing these. I am excited!
Tomato, Saucey
Solanum lycopersicum. Red Paste. 70 days. Determinate.
An early paste variety with small bushes. Developed at Oregon State University. Aka, Saucy.
Grappoli d’Inverno
Solanum lycopersicum. Red Paste. 60-70 days. Semi-determinate.
Grappoli d’Inverno’s small bushes ripen early with 1-2 oz, plum-sized fruit that keep very well once picked. Unimpressive when eaten fresh, the flavor transforms into deliciousness once dried.
Big Yellow Pear
An Indeterminate tomato we saved from 2019. We really enjoyed it. It was Boy the gander who most enjoyed it. He would stalk up on the plant and look for tomatoes that had turned yellow. So funny.
